Number of CAS

What is the CAS number of a chemical substance?

The CAS number of a chemical, polymer, biological sequence or alloy is its unique registration number in the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) database.

As shown in the diagram below, your product can be broken down into one or more components and in each component, there can be one or more substances, described by a CAS number.

What do we need to make the estimate?

What we are asking you to determine is the number of substances with a CAS number in your product (i.e. all the substances in your product, at the chemical substance level of detail, described by a CAS number – this includes any additives, pigments, or other substances representing a very small part of the product)

How do I determine the number of substances with a CAS number contained in my product (requested for the quote)?

The CAS numbers of the substances contained in your products are sometimes (often partially) listed on the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) of your products or components of your products.
You can also ask your suppliers to provide you with this information if you do not have SDSs or if they are incomplete.
