What is a Digital Product Passport (DPP) ?

Transparency, traceability, and trust...

The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a key tool in the European ESPR regulation on the eco-design of sustainable products (June 2024). It is a unique digital file associated with each product, accessible via a QR code or NFC/RFID chip, which contains reliable and standardized information on:

  • Origin and supply chain
  • Composition and substances used
  • Environmental performance (carbon footprint, energy efficiency, health, etc.)
  • Instructions for use, maintenance, repair, and upcycling
  • End of use and possibilities for reuse or recovery

It is the cornerstone of circular construction and reuse.

Did you know? The concept of the Digital Product Passport (then called Material Passport) was invented by the founders of Upcyclea and the European BAMB project teams in 2015. Inspired by the Cradle to Cradle philosophy, it was designed to conceive buildings as Material Banks, in order to maximize reuse and decarbonization. Learn more.

The Upcyclea Library of Digital Passports Products.

+20,000 Digital Product Passports for construction products.

Together with hundreds of partner manufacturers, Upcyclea offers a library of digital passports containing ESG data for tens of thousands of construction products. The library also contains nearly 2000 generic passports, created by Upcyclea, based on official Default Environmental Data.

Manufacturers can declare their passports free of charge. If they wish, Upcyclea can check the conformity of the information declared thanks to the proofs provided by the latter. If compliant, passports are issued with pictograms to help users make their selections.

The Upcyclea digital passport library and its platform have been recommended by the UK Green Building Council since 2023.

The Upcyclea library is connected to the world's leading environmental databases.
